STARTING A NEW LIFE AS A UNIVERSITY STUDENT

This is my first year at METU. After a long study period at high school , I came to METU and I was a bit nervous about being a freshman at university. I’m sure nearly every student must have experienced some problems about adjusting to university life and I think I’m one of them. Firstly, being away from home is really difficult. Before coming to METU, I had even thought about going to another university which is closer to my hometown. I felt very lonely and homesick for the first few weeks. Secondly, since I came here, I have had great difficulty in controlling my life. With the excitement and chaos of this new life I’m always in a hurry. I’m trying to stand on my own feet, care about my expenses, eat rightly, get enough sleep and so on. My wake up and eating schedule are always irregular. I can’t get enough sleep some days and then I feel sleepy all day long. All these things make me feel tired .In addition, my roommates are sometimes very noisy. This is a bit frustrating but I’m trying to be patient. In spite of all these negative aspects, I still like being at METU. Thanks to all the opportunities on campus, we can meet our needs for everything such as shopping, sport facilities, social groups and so forth. Socializing and finding new friends on campus are easier. I always meet with new people, hang out with my friends. So I don’t have time to be lonely. Moreover, there is a big library which offers us a quiet study area and a variety of books. To sum up, being a student at METU means having more responsibilities but also means improving yourself. I’m happy to be a part of this university and I feel more self confident now. I know that METU is one of the most suitable places for us to be ready for the future.
